"Through the lens of DNA discovery, the Townshend family tree is moving beyond paper records and ancestral lists. Forgotten branches are emerging as living history, as genetic evidence restores lost relationships—uncovering family ties that once seemed unimaginable—and bringing long-hidden bonds into clear focus."

MAMA AND ME & Auntie Daphne

The Discovery of the Burnt Ground CousinsA DNA-Confirmed Story of Shared Ancestry

For more than six decades, my mother and "Sister Binns" shared a bond that transcended friendship. After meeting at Kencot Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jamaica, they became fast friends, remaining very close until my mother's passing in 2021. Sister Binns asked me to call her Auntie Daphne, a simple invitation that carried forward the love and constancy she had always shown.

The Revelation: The discovery was astonishing: Auntie Daphne and Mama were not just lifelong friends, but cousins. Auntie Daphne marveled that their bond had been shaped by shared ancestry all along. Her daughters quite literally jumped for Joy, reflecting the deep connection they shared with my big sister Joy.

While Mama grew up knowing very little of her maternal ancestry, DNA has finally provided the answers. Both families trace back to Burnt Ground, Saint Elizabeth.

The Genetic Compass

"Solving the mystery of the Williams branch through DNA Triangulation."

THE MANCHESTER ROOTS

For generations, the trail stopped with my mother's known family in Manchester, specifically in the Craighead area:

Clementina Harrison (b. Craighead, Manchester)
Ellen Williams (b. St. Elizabeth)

Beyond Ellen, the records were silent—until DNA testing revealed a massive connection to the Townshends of Burnt Ground in St. Elizabeth.

THE ST. ELIZABETH & MANCHESTER CONNECTION

Our DNA confirms descent from the John Townshend line of St. Elizabeth while our maternal roots trace back to Craighead, Manchester.

Current Research Focus:

Triangulating matches between 50cM – 200cM+ to identify Ellen Williams' parents
Investigating the connection between St. Elizabeth and Manchester families
Determining how Clementina Harrison's Manchester roots connect to the Townshend line
