See how Jamaicans turn resilience and humor into a powerful force for recovery—qualities they’re known for worldwide, shining through once again in the challenges of Hurricane Melissa.
Eye on Jamaica: In High Spirits
In the wake of Hurricane Melissa’s devastation, Jamaica has been rebuilding not just homes and roads, but a sense of normalcy. Yet even in the hardest moments, the island’s spirit refuses to dim. From laughter on the streets to creative moments shared online, Jamaicans find ways to lift each other up—because resilience isn’t only measured in what we rebuild, but in the joy we manage to hold onto.
“In High Spirits” honors that dual reality, showcasing the creators and everyday people whose humor provides balance, relief, and hope—even after the storm.
Here are some glimpses of that spirit in action:
Through storms, challenges, and every crisis, Jamaicans’ humor and unshakable spirit have carried them forward—lifting communities and inspiring laughter along the way.
Even in the toughest times, Jamaica’s spirit shines through humor. Laughter lifts communities, strengthens resilience, and turns adversity into connection and courage. Jamaicans respond to crises with both heart and wit—helping neighbors, leading relief efforts, and spreading generosity—while never losing their signature humor.
The videos in this ticker tape celebrate that legacy: the comedians, creators, and everyday heroes whose laughter has carried Jamaica through storms and challenges, proving that humor and resilience go hand in hand.
